How to Use This Tool

Start by entering the serving size printed on the beer label (in milliliters or fluid ounces) and the fat content listed for that serving. Then specify how much you actually plan to drink — this can be the same as the label serving or a different amount. The calculator will compute the fat per 100 grams, which is the standard reference used on nutrition labels and in food databases.

If you want more precision, adjust the density field. Most beers have a density close to water (1.00 g/mL), but heavier stouts and porters can be slightly denser (around 1.01 g/mL). The default of 1.0 works fine for most purposes.

How It Works

The calculation is straightforward: first, the fat per serving is divided by the serving volume to get fat per milliliter. That value is multiplied by 100 to get fat per 100 mL, then divided by the beer density to convert to fat per 100 grams. For your actual drink, the fat per mL is multiplied by the volume you drink to get total fat. Calories from fat are estimated using the standard 9 kcal per gram of fat, and the daily value is based on a 2,000-calorie diet with a recommended 78 g of fat per day (per FDA guidelines).

Note that this tool only accounts for fat — it does not include calories from alcohol or carbohydrates, which make up the vast majority of beer's energy content.

Worked Examples

Example 1: Standard lager: 330 mL serving, 0 g fat. Result: 0 g fat per 100 g, 0 total fat, 0 kcal from fat.
